Being a world champion has perks. One of them is hand-picking the top upcoming talents to help your fight preparations. Therefore for Newquay’s Brad Pauls, he was delighted to be asked by IBF Super Middleweight champion James DeGale to spend some time in the ring together.
“Sparring people like James is only going to take me to the next level” says the 24 year old undefeated middleweight from Newquay.
Seven fights into his career, all victories with four stoppages, Pauls has been working under the guidance of top Trainer Terry Steward as he plots a route to titles. Sharing a ring with the likes of DeGale will only add to the already impressive skill set that his growing legion of fans are only too aware of.
“It was a brilliant experience for me sparring James Degale, a slippery slick, switch hitting world champion who’s done it all in the sport” beams Brad. “Of course I had to be switched on the whole time because any mistakes I’d be punished for. I kept a good work rate for the 6 rounds and my coach was happy, so we should be getting more sparring soon.”
With a fight date scheduled at Plymouth Guildhall on Sunday November 5th as part of the BCB Promotion show, it is an opportunity for the Newquay Bomber to show just how valuable his time spent with an Olympic gold medallist and world champion has been.
